Last Writers

The UTD Chapter of Last Writers is a service-oriented and educational organization founded by Last Writers 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to connect UTD members with hospice patients, their family, and their healthcare teams to compile a memoir that immortalizes life stories of the hospice patient. We spend time and talk with patients, their loved ones, and their healthcare teams to present a holistic picture of that person’s life and the end-of-life process. As a vehicle of expression, we hope to aid in the grieving and healing process and to provide a lasting memento for family and friends. Members will learn more about narrative medicine, the intersection between the humanities and medicine, and be guided through the whole process through one-on-one mentoring.
